Fertile ground


Are you fertile?

Historically, the relationship between fertility problems and men has shared a similar relationship to that of ballet and war crimes. That is, a non-relationship (“Well, it can’t be my sperm”). And while napalm isn’t likely to feature at a theatre near you, boosting your fertility should be major billing if you plan on treading the boards to fatherhood later in life.

According to a recent study conducted by the Eylau Centre for Assisted Reproduction in Paris, it seems that the male biological clock is ticking faster than we thought, despite the average age of fathers rising every year. Currently in Britain, according to the Office for National Statistics, the average age of a first-time father is 32. Ten per cent of babies are born to a father over 40, and 1% to a father over 50. And it’s not just the empirical evidence, which is proof of the pudding – social attitudes quite clearly praise the older .
