Invictus tugs at the heartstrings





Morgan Freeman’s gravelly, measured intonation has become movie shorthand for inspirational wisdom.





So it’s no great surprise that director Clint Eastwood turned to Freeman when casting Nelson Mandela, the human rights champion whose charisma, conviction and compassion won over many doubters.

The film enters Mandela’s life when he takes office as South Africa’s new president.

His victory is tarnished by racial divisions that still threaten the nation’s unity but former prisoner Mandela is determined to forgive, hiring white security guards to join his black team.
However, he needs to harness something big to break down more barriers and he finds it in rugby, giving South African team captain François Pienaar (Matt Damon) motivational sermons in the run-up to the 1995 World Cup Championship. Keep Reading>>
